It's coming around to that time of year again where many families like to take a nice relaxing break and head away for a few days.

Whilst many may choose to put their pet in a boarding cattery or kennel, others decide to bring their pet with them on the trip.

Here are a few tips on how to prepare:

  • If your cat is not an avid traveller or is not used to being in a cat carrier cage, start preparing them ASAP! Start by putting a blanket in the carrier and encouraging the cat to sleep in it at home. They will see it as a less frightening experience. Bring them on short car journeys to begin with, increasing duration as they become more comfortable.

  • Make sure your cat has been microchipped and registered and all contact information is up to date and correct.

  • Make sure your cats worming, flea treatment and vaccinations are up to date as some parasites and diseases can be more common in different parts of the country.

  • If your pet is on any long-term medication, make sure you have enough for the duration of the trip.

  • Please remember to check ahead with where you are staying to make sure it is pet friendly.

  • Hopefully these tips will make the experience a tad easier and you will hopefully have a memorable experience... for all the right reasons!
