Quotes About Dogs

Dogs are very popular as pets. It is estimated there are 4.2 million pet dogs in Australia, 8.5 million in the UK and 78 million in the USA. Dogs are so popular for many reasons including their unconditional love, they don't judge, they want to please and they make us happy. Here are a few quotes I have come across about dogs.
Unconditional and constant love
Dogs love unconditionally. H.G. Bissinger, American writer and journalist says, 'Actually, my dog I think is the only person who consistently loves me all the time.'
People may be angry and stop talking to you. A partner may break up with you. However, a dog will continue to love you, no matter what, as long as you aren't cruel to him/her.
MRI scans have been done which show the reward centre of a dog's brain lights up when it smells something belonging to its owner.
Dogs don't judge
People often judge but a dog doesn't. English novelist, Samuel Butler said, 'The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.' If you are playing with your dog and doing all sorts of silly things he will enjoy it and you never have to worry that he thinks you are ridiculous.

Dogs want to please you
Your dog wants your praise and to please you. Lewis Grizzard, American writer and humourist, said, 'You call to a dog and a dog will break its neck to get to you. Dogs just want to please. Call to a cat and its attitude is, 'What's in it for me?'
Some breeds have a stronger desire to please their owners than others. These dogs are easier to train because they are so keen to please and include -
Border Collie
Shetland Sheepdog
German Shepherd
Australian Shepherd
Labrador Retriever
Golden Retriever

Dogs make you happy
Research shows what dog owners know, a dog can make you happy. They can relieve loneliness and depression. Dogs can also help a shy person interact with others because people may talk to the owner about the dog when out walking. Jill Abramson, former executive editor of The New York Times says,' You know, a dog can snap you out of any kind of bad mood that you're in faster than you can think of.'
Dogs don't appeal to everyone and some people who do like dogs aren't in the right situation to take on the responsibility of owning one. However, a dog can make a great pet if you have the time to spend with him/her and can provide the things she/he needs.
