Recently I brought a harness for my pet cat (who is an indoor pet) in an attempt to encourage regular exercise.

I was just wondering how others view harnesses? Are they a necessity? Do you have a particular brand or style that you prefer?

We once bought a lead to take our rabbit for a walk, but it was obvious he hated it from the off, and struggled fiercely to get out of it. We didn't want to upset him, so never used it again.
I prefer a harness on my dog when we walk her, if give better control so she doesn't tug and pull on the lead. However when we were teaching her to walk with us (rather then her walking us) as a puppy, the dog trainer insisted on using a choker chain to train her. I wasn't comfy with it, but it actually did work.
